Is there any of the films adaptations that have made you angry because they’ve ignored important parts of the book?
Well this is easy. There are two main things that come to mind. I’m sure if I really thought back there would be other things left out that bothered me, but these two things were probably the biggest.
First is the very crucial character left out of OOTP movie, Lily Evans. They had actually filmed the scene with her in it, but it did not make the final cut. This of course led fans to riot by the time they finished reading about Snape’s memories in DH, and sequentially wiping away the tears.
Even before the last book had come out, fans were excited to see Lily in this scene (me included). We had suspected there was something important going on between Lily and Snape but it wasn’t clear what that was yet.
I was looking forward to seeing Harry’s reaction to that memory and it is much more effective with both of his parents.
And let’s not forget, practically the crux of the entire series. Way to go OOTP.
The other important thing left out of the movies that really bothered me was Dumbledore’s funeral. I don’t think this bothered the fandom as much as the Lily thing but I found it personally upsetting. All of the characters are important, but Dumbledore had been mentor to Harry all of those years. It was like Harry had lost a father figure.
I also think the ending of the sixth movie was lacking. Having the funeral would have strengthened the trio’s dialogue at the end of the movie. Instead it just felt too cheesy.
